Restoran Crazy Crab, Ara Damansara

I've frequently passed by Oasis Square when the sky is still bright. Wondering what's nice at night.

Finally, I have a chance to see it! We decided to explore our dinner and to our lil surprise,it's another hip place for residents around that area.

See.... The night view was awesome! Great place to hang out with your buddies!

It was surrounded by beautiful lights & pools along the side.

You can find many restaurants nearby, from Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean and etc...

After a round of discovery, we decided to cheer up our mood with crabs. Yes, you hear me correctly, it's CRABSsssssss

It was a spacious restaurant with simple design but to highlight, there is a relatively big aquarium there!

Look at the menu, extremely limited choices despite the crabs ways of cooking are also restricted. Well, the most important is the food rite? :)

Ordered 4 dishes and here comes:

Bbq Lamb ( I'm a fan of grilled lamb)

Well marinated but I would still prefer the grilled lamb in Klang.... slurp slurp

Lala Mee Hoon

Hmm.. it's kinda tasteless and the pepper taste eventually covers the mee hoon flavor. Just an ordinary dish to me though...

Steamed lala with superior wine.

The soup was flavorful with generous slices of ginger but it's slightly too salty. (Well, we're being a lil health conscious here :)  Overall, it's a 'like' to me

Salted Baked Crabs

To my surprise, it's not dry and baked it at the perfect timing. You can taste the juicy meat in every bite. Bad thing is it's not enough for 3 of us though... (we ordered 1 kg only)  y

Review : The choices are limited and nothing much to shout out.. I will probably try their signature, Butter Milk Crab some other day....

Super Crunchy Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies

My long waited, Chinese New Year season is around the corner. You will hear CNY or Gong Xi Fa Chai Songs on the radio and everywhere.

It surely lightens up my festive mood and it's time to bake some cookies for this special celebration! Well, I've never baked anything during CNY as I used to opt for 'buying' outside. Coming to year 2014, you will need to pay 15-20% more for most of the goods.

In this case, why not I choose to spend more time on baking some home-made cookies? It's one of my best recipes ever.

Imagine your home sweet home fills with cookies fragrance when you remove them from the oven. My first bite was extremely delicious as I can taste the strong butter with generous chocolate chips. Believe me, you will definitely get a 'wow' from whoever who's tried it. :)

Ingredients :

I've ran out of Hershey Choc Chips and Emborg butter so I substituted with different brands. That's why it turned out not as perfect as using the original recipes below.

- 1 cup + 2 tablespoons (5 ounces or 142 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick (4 ounces) EMBORG unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup HERSHEY SEMI SWEET CHOCOLATE CHIPS

Directions:

1) Preheat oven to 350°F/ 180 C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2) In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and mix well.

3) In another bowl,  beat the soften butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy with an electric mixer, approximately 2 minutes.

4) Add the egg and vanilla, beat well to combine.

5) Gradually beat in the flour mixture until it's just combine.

6) Stir in the chocolate chips using the spatula.

7) Cover the dough with a cling wrap and chill it about 1 hour or until it's firm.

8) Using a mini ice cream scoop, Scoop 1 1/2 tablespoon-sized balls and place onto prepared baking sheets.

9) Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

10) Cool for 2-3 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

Tips :
1) Do not over mix as the dough will be harden. The dough should be a little wet & sticky before chill.
2) I've tried using different brands of butter but EMBORG unsalted butter really works best.
3) Use HERSHEY CHOCOLATE CHIPS. You can taste the difference if you're using the cheaper chocolate chips (from bakery ingredients shop) which I did :(
4) The baking time varies depending on the oven.

Ok, this should be part of your menu on What's For Today. A great savour for your family tea time. :)

Restoran Fook Lay, Sg Chua

It's been like ages since I last visited this restaurant. I had an urge to recall my memories that it used to be my family' fav dining place on weekend.

I am a stranger to Sg Chua and I was pestering my bro to give me the direction. (haha.. he was in the discussion :P)

I still remember their signature dish, Tomyam Coconut Prawn which was never enough for us. You can drink the 'almost melted ' coconut flesh with the spicy soup.

Since it's just the two of us, we have extremely limited space to try out much.

Ok, it's time for the interesting part:

The long waited Tomyam Coconut Prawn!!

Honestly speaking, they did not serve us fresh prawns which was quite a turn down. The soup was too sweet either. Very different from what I recalled those days...

Claypot Peanut Spare Ribs

Recommended by the boss but wasnt up to expectation except the peanuts were real soft & tasty after a long cook :)

Vege

It was kinda out from my expectation but it was a good refresh experience though

Sun dried tomato loaf bread

It was my first time having buffet dinner at Pyramid Tower Hotel and the Herbs Bread Loaf was superb!

The herbs are well blended and it enhances the bread flavor.

I've actually asked the chef for the main ingredients of the herbs and he did not hesitate to give me his lil secret recipes :)

i) Sun dried tomato
ii) Basil
iii) Thyme

Can't wait to share with my family and had a quick shop at Jaya Grocery (it supplies lots of dry & fresh herbs & imported stuffs too)

It takes a lot of effort to make a good bread but think about it, what's better than serving a good bread for your family and seeing them smile which makes you feel good? :D

Ingredients :
- 4 tsp of dried basil
- 4 tsp of fried tyme
- Sun dried tomato (measurement is up to you probably 8 pieces chopped)
- 500 g (16 oz) bread flour
300 ml (10 fl oz) lukewarm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dry yeast

  1. Add the dry yeast + sugar into the lukewarm water. Mix well and leave for 10 minutes to allow the yeast to activate.
  2. Add in bread flour and salt in a large bowl and mix well. Add in the yeast mixture, olive oil and the sun-dried tomatoes. Mix well till form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly-oiled bowl. Cover and leave in a warm place until the dough doubles in size. (about an hour )
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knock it back and knead for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Place the dough on the floured pan. (wait for another hour)
  7. Preheat the oven at 250 C
  8. Bake it for 10 minutes at 250 C
  9. Reduce to 230 celcius and bake for another 25-30 minutes
  10. Remove and cool to serve

* If you are using instant yeast, you can mix with the bread flour followed by adding the
  lukewarm water
* The baking time may vary depending on the oven
* Use fresh herbs. I did not use it earlier cause the fresh herbs were out of stock :(
* The yeast won't work with hot / boiling water

Morning Breakfast at Restoran Raju, PJ

I had a sudden craving in the middle of the night and immediately bugged my bf that I MUST HAVE BREAKFAST at Raju before heading to shop for my CNY Baking Ingredients.

For your info, it's super crowded in the morning and you will need to wait to be seated.

Since it's so near to Gasing Hill, it becomes a hot spot for breakfast after a good sweat.

I personally enjoy the Roti Canai most since it's crispy and fluffy. Love to dip with their awesome SOS BAWANG (spicy and lots of onion & spices).

I must have at least 1 & half Roti Canai. I know it's fattening but can't help it :P

My bf loves the tosai with flavorful dhal & chutney

Side dish - Sotong Bawang Goreng. (squid) Yum Yum

Another side dish - fish egg

There are various of side dishes - fish, chicken, squid, fish egg, mutton, cuand etc...

It's not surprising if your breakfast would exceed RM 20. The food here is somewhat pricey.

Don't know what to have for tomorrow breakfast? Now you have a plan right? :P

3) Add in egg at one time, mixing on low speed until it's just combined

4) Gently fold in the thickened cream into the mixture

5) Lastly, add in the remaning 30 gram oreo crumbs and fold using spatula
